University Television (UTV) provides television programming primarily to Housing & Residential Education (HRE) and University Student Apartments (USA). UTV service is delivered by way of a hybrid video distribution system of coaxial and fiber optic cable.
The University of Utah has upgraded its cable TV equipment to a new TV programming provider, effective September 2014. The new service includes many High Definition (HD) channels and provides a wide selection of diverse TV programming via UTV's hybrid fiber and coaxial system.
Digital TV or HDTV sets must have a QAM tuner ("clear" QAM 64/256 annex B) to work with the HD signals and UTV service. The QAM tuner allows your TV to receive HD/SD digital programming without an external set top box. However, some inexpensive TVs may not have a QAM tuner. To find out if your TV is compatible, check the specifications in your owner's manual for "clear" QAM 64/256 annex B tuner (not just ATSC or NTSC tuner), or visit the manufacturer's website.
To connect to UTV, you will need a high quality coaxial CATV cable.
If you are having issues with UTV, please contact the Campus Help Desk at 801-581-4000, opt. 1.
Building and facility managers who need new cable installed, existing cable disconnected, or consulting for new construction projects may contact John T. Wardle, UTV Manager, at 801-585-2003, or by email at email@example.com.
The UTV Info Channel is a 24-hour television channel with information about campus activities, programs, services, and events of interest to UTV viewers and the university community. UTV Info HD (UTV channel 6.1) is where high definition content is aired.
University entities, faculty, staff and students can submit information about U of U activities, services, and events for display on this television bulletin board channel.
